Hey friend, welcome back to The Mom-entum Podcast! If you’ve ever felt like you’re constantly running but never actually getting anywhere, today’s episode is for you. We’re talking about how poor time management is secretly stealing your joy—your health, your relationships, and even your sense of self.
And before you say, “I just need to try harder, wake up earlier, or be more productive”—let me stop you right there. That’s the exact mindset that’s keeping you stuck. But don’t worry, by the end of this episode, you’re going to have a simple first step to start turning things around. So, let’s dive in.
Have you ever collapsed into bed at the end of the day and thought, I got nothing done—even though you never stopped moving?
Or maybe your to-do list just keeps getting longer no matter how hard you try to catch up?
Go one day without doing laundry, and the basket overflows with dirty clothes. You spend an hour cleaning up the playroom, only to turn around and in 5 minutes its turned upside down again. Keeping up with the constant influx of paper clutter and having to make decisions of do I keep this or do I throw it out? If I’m keeping it, where do I put it? Do I hang it up on display? But the fridge is already littered with coloring pages and calendars, where would I have room? I could take something down, but then I have to figure out what to do with it! And if you’re like me you just throw things away or you could always take a picture of it. But anyway, I’m just painting a picture here for you. Can you relate?
Here’s the truth. This stuff, most of it doesn’t even matter. Is it a big deal that our laundry is piling up? No, it really isn’t. I think a lot of us are blessed enough to have an abundance of clothes to wear. Not to mention, how about those of us who are fortunate enough to have a washer and dryer in our home? There are people who do not have this luxury. All this to say, when things pile up, it does have an effect on us doesn’t it? Everything we see, hear, smell, taste and touch is sensory input that our brain must process. The more physical clutter in our environment, the more sensory input our brain needs to process. Our brains are like a “don’t get killed” device. They are constantly scanning our environment for danger and for things that would increase our likelihood of survival. And this happens whether we are consciously aware of it or not. All that being said, the more stuff there is around us, even the mental stuff that accumulates in our minds, all the to dos, all of the things we need to remember, is more things for our brain to scan, interpret and catalog as safe, unsafe, urgent or trivial, and this takes energy, which drains us.
So while a pile of laundry or a messy playroom may not seem like a big deal on its own, when you add up all these little stressors—the clutter, the to-dos, the mental load—it starts to wear on you. It’s like carrying around a backpack that just gets heavier and heavier throughout the day. Eventually, you’re exhausted, overwhelmed, and running on fumes.
But here’s the thing—it’s not just about the mess or the never-ending to-do list. It’s about what this is costing you.
Imagine this: You wake up already feeling behind. You meant to wake up early, but you hit snooze three times. Now, the kids are up, and the morning rush begins. Someone can’t find their shoes, the baby’s diaper leaked, and breakfast is a battle. You’re already snapping, already overwhelmed—and the day hasn’t even really started.
As you run around trying to throw lunches together, your phone pings—a reminder for an appointment you forgot about. Now you’re scrambling, your mind racing through a million things you need to do but have no plan for. You’re short with your kids, barely listening when they try to talk to you. By the time you finally get out the door, you’re running late, you’re flustered, and the mom guilt is already creeping in.
This is what it feels like to go into your day unarmored. No plan, no system, just hoping to survive the chaos.
Now, imagine a different version of you—the one who has her time under control. You wake up and know exactly what needs to be done. You have a routine, a rhythm that works for your family. You don’t feel rushed because you’ve already set yourself up for success. When the unexpected happens (because, let’s be real, it always does), you’re able to pivot without feeling like your whole day is falling apart.
Managing your time is like putting on a suit of armor before stepping into battle. It protects your peace, your patience, and your ability to be present for the people who matter most. Instead of constantly playing catch-up, you’re the one in control. And that changes everything.
So what if I told you that the problem isn’t you—it’s your time management?
So let’s get into the hidden costs of poor time management.
1. Your Health Suffers
When you’re constantly rushing, constantly behind, your body feels it. Chronic stress doesn’t just live in your mind; it shows up in your body, too. Maybe you’re struggling to fall asleep at night because your brain won’t shut off. Maybe you wake up already exhausted. Or maybe you’ve been dealing with headaches, tension, or even digestive issues without realizing stress could be the culprit.
Your body is in a constant state of fight-or-flight. No wonder you feel like you’re barely hanging on. This is what’s known as Rushing Woman Syndrome—where you’re living in a constant state of urgency, and it’s taking a toll on your nervous system.
2. Poor time management can put a strain on your relationships.
Think about it. When you’re always rushing, always overwhelmed, what happens? You snap at your kids over little things. You don’t have the patience you want to have. You’re sitting at the dinner table, but instead of being present, your mind is running through tomorrow’s to-do list.
It’s like you’re there, but not really there.
And then comes the guilt. Because deep down, you know these moments are slipping away, and you don’t want to live like this.
3. You’re Constantly Overwhelmed & Stuck in Survival Mode
If you feel like all you do is put out fires, like you’re never actually ahead, that’s a sign that your time isn’t working for you. Instead of running your life, your life is running you.
And I get it. Motherhood is unpredictable. There’s always something—someone needs a snack, someone has a meltdown, someone wants to be held and will not let you put them down. But when you don’t have a system to anchor you, it all feels like chaos.
4. You’ve Lost YOU
And perhaps the saddest part? You’ve lost you.
When was the last time you did something just because you wanted to? When was the last time you read a book, picked up a hobby, or just sat in silence without feeling guilty?
So many moms are stuck in the “someday” mindset—someday I’ll have time for myself. But what if that day never comes? Tony Robbins says, “The road to someday leads to the town of nowhere.” And he’s right.
Because here’s the truth—if you don’t take control of your time, nothing changes.
Most people think the solution to this is to just try harder—to hustle more, to wake up earlier, to power through. But that’s exactly what leads to burnout. It’s not sustainable, and it’s not the answer.
What you actually need is a system that works with the unpredictability of motherhood.
Time management isn’t just about checking things off a list. It’s about creating peace, about giving yourself control over your days instead of constantly feeling like you’re drowning. It’s about being intentional with how you spend your time—so that when you’re with your kids, you’re with them. When you’re working, you’re focused. When you’re resting, you actually feel rested.
Managing your time is like putting on a suit of armor before stepping into battle. It protects your peace, your patience, and your ability to be present for what matters most.
And here’s where you start—The 5-Minute Reset.
It’s a simple, quick, and powerful tool to help you shift out of overwhelm and into control. And the best part? You don’t have to carve out extra hours in your day. It’s designed for moms like you.
Now, I know I might sound like a broken record because for the past three weeks, I have really been pushing this 5-Minute Reset. But it’s because I truly believe it will help you.

Living this way—stressed, exhausted, and constantly behind—is wreaking havoc on your health, your relationships, and your happiness. And the worst part? Nothing changes unless you change it. But you have the power to change it. You do. It’s just one simple decision. One tiny action that could completely change the trajectory of your life. Because one tiny shift in a positive direction can create a snowball effect, leading to another positive change, and then another, and then suddenly you become the person you were striving to be.
